Green ham and eggs

From the Beeb: Scientists in Taiwan say they have bred three pigs that glow in the dark.

The report on the BBC website says “The scientists will use the transgenic pigs to study human disease. Because the pig’s genetic material is green, it is easy to spot”. I don’t see how the genetic material can be green. I think they mean that the genetic material encodes for proteins that produce the green fluorescence.
